Gail Siracky, volunteer
Volunteer Gail Siracky is a champion for inclusion and dignity, ensuring that everyone feels seen and valued. Her dedication to social justice is evident in her unwavering care for residents, her commitment to fostering community and her ability to break down barriers for those in need.
When a resident with complex needs and no family support was hospitalized, Gail asked to visit her weekly, upholding the individual’s dignity and well-being. She worked with the care team and management to advocate for the resident’s needs, offering both practical support and genuine companionship. Her kindness extended beyond hospital. Gail provided essential items, demonstrating her deep compassion and commitment to justice in care.
Gail’s ability to build community is equally remarkable. Recognizing the power of shared experiences, she created an inclusive and engaging atmosphere for memory care residents by upgrading their viewing experience for the Oilers’ playoff season. The excitement of the games brought residents together, fostering camaraderie and connection.
Her leadership in community-building extends beyond the site. During the 2024 Seniors’ Week fundraising barbecue, she mobilized her family members to contribute to the success of the event. Her dedication ensured a vibrant, welcoming space where residents, families and the greater community could come together in celebration and support.
Gail’s actions reflect a deep understanding of social justice, not just as a principle, but as a lived practice. She identifies needs, removes barriers and brings people together, making a meaningful impact on residents, colleagues and the broader community.
